Dog Haus at SanTan Village in Gilbert, AZ, is a tasty East Valley restaurant that extends a warm welcome to your four-legged friends on its dog-friendly patio! It’s known for its all-beef, hormone-free and antibiotic-free hot dogs (vegetarian options available), creatively topped and served on grilled King’s Hawaiian Rolls. They also offer handcrafted sausages, ethically-sourced Black Angus beef burgers, crispy chicken sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and more. Originating in Pasadena, California in 2010, Dog Haus has since expanded to over 90 locations throughout the USA as of October 2023.
The Dog-Friendly Experience
Customers with dogs can sit in the fenced-in patio section and either go inside to order or simply order through the bartender. There may be times of the day where servers are out on the patio, but we didn’t encounter that during our visit. An employee provided our dog with a metal water bowl filled with fresh water and ice cubes which was a nice touch. They also have a dog menu available, offering items like hot dogs, burger patties, and chicken, although it is a bit on the expensive side, and you may need to request it, as we did. The dog menu consists of a half hot dog for approximately $3.99 and a full hot dog for around $5.99.
Our 6-month-old Goldendoodle puppy, Finn, was a bit nervous as it was her first restaurant experience, but enjoyed people-watching, playing with toys, and nibbling on ice cubes while we dined. In hindsight, we realized that we should have brought her a bully stick or some kind of edible chew item but she managed well without one. Later, we took her to a rocky spot near the parking lot for a brief potty break before heading home.
Dining Atmosphere
The patio lacked a misting system (or it wasn’t operational during our visit on a 95°F day) and overlooks the busy parking lot, which isn’t the most scenic view, but it does offer shade. If you opt for the bar, you’ll enjoy a nice breeze and a view of the inside of the restaurant.
After another pair of customers with two larger dogs left, we moved to the bar seating for direct service from the bartender.
Closing Thoughts
This marked our dog’s first restaurant outing, and our Saturday afternoon visit was a great one. We enjoyed the food, the ambiance, and the overall dog-friendly experience.
As with all our pet-dining experiences, we comment on the human bathrooms. At Dog Haus, they only offer indoor restrooms so if you find yourself needing to use the restroom, it’s advisable to have a companion keep an eye on your fur baby while you step inside.
Lastly, the SanTan Dog Haus is conveniently just 10 minutes away from our Happy Pets Palace Chandler location! If you’re a local dog owner who hasn’t experienced doggy daycare or boarding, we invite you to explore our website for more information.
Note: We are encouraging taking regular non-service dogs to patio dine at dog-friendly restaurants because it can be a nice social experience. The blogs about our dog-friendly restaurant visits are not about service dogs. We respect the training service dogs have gone through to provide a valuable and necessary service(s) to their human.
